TO break the chain of distribution of covid-19, the Palembang City Government plans to extend the period of the Large-Scale Social Restriction (PSBB), which is known to end on June/2/2020.
The Mayor of Palembang, Harnojoyo, said the Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI) of South Sumatra gave recommendations to extend the PSBB in Palembang.
“Being prepared and getting input (related to PSBB). Among them are from IDI and community leaders. Our efforts continue to suppress co-19 and PSBB in Palembang continued. But, we see how education (can) be understood quickly by the public. Tomorrow we will evaluate again, “explained Harnojoyo, Monday (1/6).
The government is considering the results of studies from the Faculty of Public Health, Sriwijaya University and the Palembang Health Office. Several indicators are considered, namely the incidence rate of previous illnesses, population, 2.5% transmission rate and contact rate.
“The study related to the peak (covid-19) was conducted since early April. So, we predict the peak of the spread of covid-19 on June 8,” he said.
Based on observations of community behavior during the PSBB, around 30% of residents are at home, 16% work in offices, 15% work in the health service sector and 5% of people are in the market.
“On May 20, the effective reproduction rate (RT) was 1.29. While on May 31, there was a decrease in the spread of 0.92,” Harnojoyo added.
He admitted, PSBB was one of the bases in the implementation of new normal. Harnojoyo stressed that people must be familiar with healthy lifestyles, the use of masks and physical distancing.
“If (PSBB) is extended, it is likely to be the next 14 days. In accordance with the incubation period. But, tomorrow we will wait for the evaluation results today,” he concluded.
Public awareness plays an important role in the fight against covid-19. That must be improved. Various stakeholders also continue to be involved to intensify education.
