Pulau Weh Prepares to Welcome Tourist
MORE than two months a number of tourist destinations in Sabang City, Weh Island, Aceh, were closed to the public although co-19 cases were not found.
Access to visit to Sabang was closed by local authorities since March 25, 2020. As a result, tourism industry players did not get income.
“Yes, of course, for 2 months there was no income at all,” said the owner of the rental car Agency Master Rental Helmi, Sunday (5/31).
Helmi said to survive for 2 months, he and his colleagues in the tourism industry were forced to drain their savings.
The head of the Iboih Snorkeling Organization, Yah Mizi, said his income dropped dramatically as the temporary closure of a number of tourist destinations.
“So far we have all been quite difficult to work on Weh Island because we are not allowed to open tours,” he said. He explained, in agreement with local local tourism actors, they ventured to reopen tourism with health protocols and coordinate with the Covid-19 Task Force Team in Sabang City.
“Alhamdulillah, for those who have Sabang ID cards, they can already visit tourist sites in Iboih without closing,” he explained.
Furthermore, he hoped the government would open Weh Island for tourists from Aceh. “Hopefully this will happen.
We can resume activities by following the health protocol or SOP in force, “Yah Mizi continued.
Similarly, Helmi revealed her readiness to coordinate with the local government regarding the implementation of health protocols for the sustainability of Sabang tourism.
“We will follow the health protocol after there are instructions from the government later,” he explained.
Previously, the Sabang City Government tightened supervision of the entrance to Weh Island through the Balohan Crossing Port to prevent the spread of covid-19.
“Port of Balohan is the most vulnerable access to the spread of the corona virus,” he explained.
